Kees’ Adventure T-shirt merchandise prototype

Kees' Adventure Merchandise

A T-shirt with a print of Kees from Kees’ Adventure 3 on it. It did turn out decently, however, it might have been better to choose a different colour shirt. The costs were about 15 euro’s including shipping costs. Since it was only one shirt, it might become cheaper if I order a large batch. Yet, I do not believe there is, at this time, a large enough market to sell these shirts on. So for now I will just use it as a silly addition to my private wardrobe.

Kees’ Adventure for Android test #1

A short video showing an application that I was working on for the Android platform, a remake of Kees’ Adventure. I used the Flixel for Android framework. However, this lead to some performance issues that I hope to either get fixed or rewrite the code without Flixel. Using a framework for such a simple game is perhaps a bit overkill. The layout of the controls might also need to be revised, since if you direct the character, you block the screen with your hand.

The cellphone is a ZTE blade, running Android version 2.2.2

About the performance, when I had the chance to test the application on a different device (HTC desire Z, running Android version 2.3.3), the game was (literary) running four times as fast as it was on my cellphone. Perhaps this is due to the fact that my phone is rather low-end, and/or the android version is older. Might also have to do with the fact that the game (since it is based on Flixel) is frame-timed. So how faster the CPU is, the faster the game runs.

In future version I will address the problems I have described above. However, this will probably mean that I will have to write the game without Flixel, which would be a shame since it would be easy if I could port all my previous Flixel games to Android apps.

Site update

Today I have updated the site and the blog.

The whole face has been changed from green to a multicoloured-round-edged site.
I have added more of my games to the ‘games’ section, and the site has walkthroughs for all the games that are on the site, on the page of the respective games.
This meant that I had to make a video for each of the flash games.
You can find these on the kcnhgames youtube channel.

This is what the site looked like before:

Mage Arena 2

Use your fire-ball-shooting staff to defeat all waves of enemies in this retro arcade game!

Today I released my latest game Mage Arena 2 on Newgrounds!

It is a sequel of the arcade game Mage Arena that I made in 2010. I have remade the game because there were a lot of complaints that the controls were not good. So, I fixed the controls by changing the keyboard aim to mouse-aimed shooting. In addition to that I also added new features such as blood, better effects and coloured sprites.

Recap: Crossroads:2D

As I stated in my previous blog post that my latest game Crossroads:2D is a remake of a game I made in 2009. Because of the fact that the original game wasn’t received as well by the audience as I thought it would, I decided to remake it. However, I did not expect that the game would become such a hit!

The game got daily fifth place and was featured on the front page at newgrounds.com. On top of that, the number of people with me in their ‘favourite artists’ list more than doubled from 7 to 15.

I have used the Newgrounds API for the ads and to make the four different endings have as reward ng medals. This probably made the game more popular because people like playing games and earning medals/points.

Unfortunately, the game was not without bugs when I released it. Despite a lot of beta-testing there were still some (minor) problems. However, thanks to the people that placed reviews, I was able to fix all of them.

At time of writing the score is 3.71, which is a new personal record for my games scores on ng. Here is an image of how the score did over the course of the first four days:

The sudden increase is due to the fact that the game got on the frontpage of Newgrounds, with a top of 3.77 after which it steadily declined until it stabilised around 3.71.

Despite a few hick-ups at the start, I think it is fair to say that Crossroads:2D was a small success.

Crossroads: 2D

Crossroads:2D
A classic adventure game featuring trolls, mighty knights and a mysterious old man! Multiple endings ensure that you will have a different experience every time you play!

Just released my latest game Crossroads: 2D on Newgrounds!

It is a 2D remake of the text-adventure Crossroads that I made in 2009. I have remade the game because most people aren’t very fond of text-based games, which is a shame since it was a decent retro game (if I do say so myself). The 2D version is not copied exactly because I had to change some details. For example, the the ravine in the original has been replaced by a choppable tree stump and a forest.
